FPSC Presents to Ontario Government Consultations Regarding the Need for Professional Recognition of Financial Planning.

The Ontario government made a commitment in the 2013 Fall Economic Outlook and Fiscal Review to investigate the merits of more tailored regulation of financial planners and to consider the appropriate regulatory framework for doing so. This initiative was met with cautious optimism by FPSC and the Coalition for Professional Standards for Financial Planners, a group of four organizations including Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC), Canadian Institute of Financial Planners (CIFPs), Institute of Advanced Financial Planners (IAFP) and Institut québécois de planification financière (IQPF). As a first step in their consultation process, the Ministry of Finance invited FPSC and other industry stakeholders to provide views on this topic at a roundtable consultation on January 10.

FPSC President & CEO Cary List presented several specific recommendations. He also reviewed the work that has been undertaken to date by the Coalition. A full version of Mr. List’s remarks can be found here or click here for FPSC’s media release on the topic.
